 Dr. Robert L Smith
Originally a native of Buffalo, New York, Robert L. Smith, MD graduated from Rochester’s East High School in 1987. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Sports Science/Biology at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NorthCarolina in 1991. His first career was that of a PGA Golf Professional at Stafford Country Club in the Western New York PGA Section, from 1991-1993.
He then returned to school and completed his Master’s Degree in Clinical Chemistry at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1996. Dr. Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, in 2000.

While a medical student, he completed his fourth and final year of medical school in the Rural Medical Education Program, precepting with local physicians on the F.F. Thompson Hospital Medical Staff.
Upon graduation from medical school, he attended the St. Joseph’s Hospital Family Medicine Residency, in Syracuse, NY from 2000-2003. Dr. Smith has now been an active member of the medical staff at F.F. Thompson Hospital since 2003 and serves on a number of medical staff committees as well as Vice President of the hospital's medical staff.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the New York State Academy of Family Physicians, and the Canandaigua Medical Society. He is also active within the field of medical informatics and serves as a consultant for UpDox, LLC, a revolutionary online collaboration and communication network for patients
and physicians alike. Dr. Smith also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Apractis Solutions, LLC, healthcare redesign consultants.
Aside from professional endeavors, his personal interests include spending time with his wife and daughter, competing in USGA and RDGA golf tournaments, loyally supporting Wake Forest Basketball, and travelling.
